Is this mysterious rock actually an alien spaceship?
In various parts of the Asuka region, (Asuka Park, Japan) are unusual carved granite stones the largest of which is Masuda no iwafune (the ‘rock ship of Masuda’). So what is the nature of this rock and what is its purpose? Who made it, when and why? Unfortunately, there are no definite answers to those questions, but numerous suggestions have been put forward to account for this unique and unusual structure. Suggestion comes from the name of the rock itself, which translates to ‘the rock ship of Masuda’. And in Japanese legend there are description of spaceships made of stone, in which gods descended to earth. It’s an 800-ton structure carved from a single piece of granite. It does not resemble any other architecture in Japan. Some say it’s a tomb, but most think it’s a sky boat in ancient stories.
Interestingly, Masuda no iwafune bears a similarity to another stone block in Japan – the Ishi-no-Hoden megalith, which is situated in Takasago city. This boulder seems floating in mid air (Floating rock from the heavens). No one knows who originally built it and why. It appears to hover over a pool of water, and according to Japanese legend, it was built to depict a sky ship made of stone (heavenly rock ship) that the ancient people witnessed descending from the heavens. The legend states that a deity flew in a vehicle of similar size and construction. It’s worth noting that many believe the legend’s description is due to the fact that people of the time couldn’t accurately describe the true nature of the ship.
